The extension adds a hidden honeypot input at any of your Magento 2 forms. The hidden honeypot field is not visible to real visitors/customers/users and can not disburse them to submit the form. However, spammers can see the hidden field as just another field in the form, fill that hidden honeypot field with data, and submit the form.
On any form submission, the Magento 2 Honeypot extension checks whether the honeypot field (hidden input) is filled or empty. If not filled, the form will submit, and if filled the form submission will be marked as spam and fails to submit.
As a result, all forms at your Magento 2 site will be protected from spammers. You will receive only data from real visitors/customers/users, and your Magento 2 site won't be impacted negatively due to spambots entries.

Protect Any Form Types in Storefront
Honeypot - is user-friendly, real users do not see the honeypot input, and can't fill it since it's hidden, therefore real users will always submit the form. Spam bots can see and fill in the hidden honeypot input, but they will fail to submit the form when the honeypot hidden input is filled.
Support Any Forms - the extension supports any form type. You can enable Honeypot protection to the default Magento 2 forms (eg. contact, product review, customer log-in/registration, newsletter subscription, etc.), forms from a third party, or any custom forms at your site. The checkout form is currently not supported
Flexible Backend Settings - you will need to specify the list of forms (by actions and CSS selector) to enable the honeypot feature. And, specify the message that will be displayed in the frontend to users that are not allowed to submit the form (spambots in most of the cases).
Block Spambots In Storefront - the honeypot field is added to each selected/configured form as a hidden input. If that hidden honeypot input is filled, the form will fail to submit.
